Can I Bring Kids to an Escape Room?
It’s time to book an escape room. You’ve called up your favorite family members and are getting ready to book your room. That’s when it hits you; you don’t have someone to watch your kids!
Why not bring them with you instead? At Puzzle Effect, our rooms can be played by all ages, with the exception of “The Morgue” (Unless your kids are fine with getting the daylights scared out of them!). It’s important to know that even the youngest player can be a great asset to your team… you just have to guide their thinking!
Let them Play!
It can be tempting to write off the ideas that kids have. It’s easy to assume that because of their youth, they are going to have a harder time figuring things out. However, this isn’t the case. Kids
can see things that adults can’t, and they might just have the right answer. Hear them out and discuss their thinking as a group. They are just as valuable as every other player, don’t let them be a spectator!
Be a Guide
Instead of solving the puzzle for them, let your kids try their ideas. Even if you’re certain they aren’t right, try using the Socratic Method. Ask them questions instead of giving them answers:
- “Are you sure you have those symbols in the right order?”
- “Have we used this key yet? I wonder where it could go…”
- “I like that idea, but if it’s not working, what if we tried this instead?”
- “I think we have the right idea, but what if we’re missing a piece of the puzzle?”
- Always remember that your kids are there to have fun and participate just like everyone else.
Make sure that they feel like a valued member of the team! Who knows, they just might be the key to your success!
